Shabd Simon-Alexander creates limited edition collections based on simple feminine shapes with a heavy emphasis on fabric color and pattern. She began doing her own hand dying to create fabrics that could interact playfully with the rigidity of manufactured prints. In 2009 she launched a limited edition line of hand dyed accent pieces, inspired by NASA Hubble telescope photos of worlds being born and stars dying. They bring design, chance and chaos into a perfect balance. Her namesake collection has recently developed into a blank canvas to explore dyeing and painting techniques. It is now being carried in high-end boutiques internationally as well as in Barney’s Co-op throughout the country. She has been featured in Time Out New York, Daily Candy, New York Magazine, The Martha Stewart Show, Knit Knit, Nylon, Blackbook, Dossier Journal, and on innumerable blogs.
Shabd teaches classes at Lena Corwin’s Design Studio in Brooklyn, NY. She has also had the proud honor of being the first person to teach Martha Stewart how to tie-dye.
